The Best Way To Redeem Tesco Clubcard Points - Voucher Schemes Compared
/Tesco Clubcard is one of the best retailer reward schemes in the UK. But, like any points scheme, there are efficient ways to redeem your points and there are inefficient ways to redeem your points.
Tesco Clubcard offers, generally speaking, 3 ways to redeem your Clubcard points (Clubcard Vouchers, Christmas Savers or Virgin Points), the Tesco Clubcard Voucher Schemes. In this article, I’ll be comparing them to help you figure out how to obtain the best value for your Tesco Clubcard points.
I’d recommend Clubcard Vouchers if you want simplicity or Virgin Points if you’re happy to plan and use them efficiently - Andrew Cunningham (Capital Matters Editor)

How To Change Your Tesco Voucher Scheme
In order to change your Tesco Voucher Scheme, login to your Tesco Clubcard account, navigate to ‘Account Management’ and then ‘Voucher Schemes’.
Clubcard Vouchers
You can choose to redeem your Tesco Clubcard points for Clubcard Vouchers. You can then either directly spend the vouchers in store or you can redeem them with Clubcard Partners to obtain a greater value.
You’ll earn 50p in vouchers for every 50 points earned
Clubcard Partners
You can then boost the value of your vouchers, up to 2x their normal value, with certain Clubcard partners. Here is an incomplete list of partners offering 2x value:
Travel - Railcard, Cunard, Hilton, Megabus, LastMinute.com
Experience - Legoland, Cineworld, Madam Tussauds, York Dungeon
Eat Out - Prezzo, Zizzi, Pizza Express, Chef & Brewer, ASK Italian
The majority of Clubcard Partners offer vouchers valued at 2x that of the standard Tesco voucher. But there are some retailers that don’t.
When Do Tesco Clubcard Vouchers Expire?
Tesco Clubcard Vouchers expire 2 years after they’re issued. Tesco Faster Vouchers expire 21 months after they’re issued.
Each voucher will have it’s own expiry date, which you can see on the voucher itself.
If you redeem your Tesco Clubcard Vouchers for Clubcard Partner Vouchers, those vouchers are generally valid 12 months from their order date.
Tesco Clubcard Points To Clubcard Vouchers Bottom Line:
250 points = £2.50 in Tesco Vouchers (use in store) or up to £5 in Tesco Clubcard Partner Vouchers
Christmas Savers
If you want to save up for Christmas spending at Tesco, you have the option of choosing Tesco Christmas Savers. Basically, all of your points will be added up throughout the year and then, in November, you’ll be given Tesco vouchers which you can use for Christmas spending.
You’ll earn 50p in Vouchers for every 50 points earned
Christmas Voucher Top-Ups
You can also choose to top-up your Tesco Christmas Vouchers, with your own money, in store. You’ll receive a bonus if you do so and the bonus depends on how much you save throughout the year (before 15th October):
£25-49.50 top-up = £1.50 bonus
£50-99.50 top-up = £3 bonus
£100-199.50 top-up = £6 bonus
£200-360 top-up = £12 bonus (max bonus since max top-up value)
This means your bonus can be worth anything between 3% and 6%. This sounds good but there are a lot of T&Cs attached. For example, there are a list of excluded purchases (ie. you can’t put your Christmas Saver Vouchers towards these). These include Tesco and branded gift cards, online delivery charges and third party in-store sellers.
You also don’t receive clubcard points on your cash top-ups and your bonus vouchers are only valid for 2 months from date of issue.
Plus, you can’t boost the value of your Christmas Saver Vouchers by redeeming them with Clubcard Partners, or converting them to air miles with Virgin Atlantic or British Airways.
Tesco Clubcard Points To Tesco Christmas Savers Bottom Line:
250 Points = £2.50 in Christmas Saver Vouchers
Virgin Points
You can choose to automatically convert your Tesco Clubcard points into Virgin Points.
You’ll earn 625 Virgin Points for every 250 points earned
What’s A Virgin Point Worth?
To figure out if this offers good value for your points, you’ll have to take into account how much value you can expect to achieve from you Virgin Points.
Although this is very dependent on how you choose to redeem your points, on average, you can expect to get around 0.5p and 1.5p per point. This, of course, can be boosted further if you’re an efficient points spender.
And the points aren’t just locked into Virgin Atlantic flights. You can spend your Virgin Atlantic points with their partners, including but not limited to:
Airlines (Delta, Air France, KLM, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Australia, ANA)
Tesco Clubcard Points To Virgin Points Bottom Line:
250 Points = 625 Virgin Points = £3.12 to £9.37 Expected Value (Can Be A Lot Higher)
How Much Are Tesco Clubcard Points Worth?
1 Tesco Clubcard point is worth between 1 pence and 3.7 pence per point on average.
Clearly, Tesco Clubcard points range in value depending on how they’re redeemed:
Tesco Clubcard Vouchers - 1 Pence/Clubcard Point with In-Store Vouchers or 2 Pence/Point with Tesco Clubcard Partner Vouchers
Tesco Christmas Saver - 1 Pence/Clubcard Point in Christmas Saver Vouchers
Virgin Flying Club Points - 1.2 Pence/Point to 3.7 Pence/Clubcard Point on average (can be higher)

Tesco Clubcard Point Calculator
Enter your Tesco Clubcard Points Total in the calculator below to find out what your Clubcard points are worth. This is the value you’ll get if you redeem your points for 2x Tesco Clubcard Partner Vouchers (2p/Point). However, your points may be worth more of less depending on your redemption.
What Is The Best Tesco Clubcard Point Redemption?
If you’re not interested in Virgin Flying Club points, I’d recommend Tesco Clubcard Partner Vouchers over The Christmas Saver Scheme. If you want to set aside money for Christmas, I’d suggest doing so in an FSCS protected bank account instead. With Clubcard Partner vouchers, you can double the value of standard Tesco vouchers or Christmas vouchers.
If you are interested in Virgin Flying Club points, I would recommend that option. But I’d only recommend Virgin if you’re planning on maximising the value of your Virgin Flying Club points. If you redeem them inefficiently, you’re only going to get 1.2 Pence/Point. In that scenario, the Tesco Partner Vouchers beat Virgin as a redemption option.
If you redeem your Virgin Points efficiently, you can get 3.7 Pence/Clubcard Point in value, or higher.
